It's been almost 15 years since I came out from De Smet, and I've never forgotten Coach Vitello. Coach, you're one of the most disciplined and intense individuals I've ever met, and really the first I ever encountered in my life. I'm a lieutenant in the Navy now, but even when I was in officer training in Pensacola, and the Marine Corps drill instructors were in my face screamin' -- I thought -- this guy doesn't have anything on Coach Vitello... Thanks for all of the good lessons on performance, on character and on life Coach, they've come in handy! Mike Schmid '95

Great video by Coach Vitello. I never played for him because I was a hockey player, and proud to say I still am. I have coached youth hockey for 16 years now and Coach Vitello is so right about the guys that are memorable. It\'s easy to remember the stars but the guys that really stick with you are the guys that work their tail off in practice. The guys who maybe don\'t play a lot but win a big face-off at the end of a game or block a shot. The guys that jump off the bench first when the team scores a big goal. Those guys are the ones that stick with you and make all the time and effort worthwhile. I wish Coach Vitello had been a hockey coach as well!!

Excellent interview & insight. Great career although I can hear the words loudly in my dreams-'Get 'em out!!!'-- Would love to hear old stories off the record. Thought funny when said didn't really consider himself a soccer player since he was a goalie, especially given the fact his son-in-law, Coach Fuchs, was a goalie. So you can tell Steve, he wasn't a player either & his Parade All-American status doesn't count or matter to the soccer mafia !
