Addressing the athletic needs or our students is the focus of the current campus improvement project. In 1984, the Emerson Lobby was expanded so students could have a place to socialize and recreate. In 1985, the Boian Chapel was constructed to provide the facilities needed to attend to the spiritual development of our students. Likewise, in 1996 the Thomas F. Hunter, Jr. Memorial Theater dealt with the need for better space for the fine arts, and in 2003 the academic wing answered the need for additional classrooms for the size of the student body. Now, in 2008, the need is to make sure funds are available so all qualified students can attend De Smet no matter their financial need, as well as to provide updated athletic and recreational facilities required to form well-rounded students.
The project includes the installation of FieldTurf playing surface at LaBarge Stadium and an eight-lane Mondo FTX surface, construction of a new press box and an alumni/student activities pavilion.
